Darkstar is a very bitter-sweet story at the end. I worry that people may not like how it all turns out. I leave a lot of burden on Ben's shoulders emotionally... and that's sunk into a sort of silence by the time we see him in Wayrift. That's why it makes me happy to see him bond with a family of sorts and make a good new friend like Leona. The Wayrift crew was exactly what he needed... they've really helped Ben to learn how to stand up on his own two feet over time. I can't express to you how much he's grown as a person and a figment in the past decade. He's discovered how to take what he's learned from his mistakes, pain and time in the darkness and help other people to find themselves. He's one of the figments that I'm most proud of in terms of what he's overcome... (The other two I'm proud of would be Kip and Tai.. but that's a different story.) But that's how the story's gone for over ten years now. Don't worry, though. Ben has to go through some nasty spots to figure out his direction.
