Huzzah for more Darkstar updates!!!!!!

As well as for actually getting to see Kain in action a little bit.

Now, if only they had a few thousand more uber-nasty lances... as well as a few thousand more people skilled in their use, of course.

Thanks for all the encouragment here! I think this was written back during early March, so it's been a while since I've sat down and worked with these old chapters of Darkstar. I had a lot of fun visualizing and writing the nastiness, I remember. I must have been on a roll at that point. \

I don't know that this illness is like the Marked... Marked is something permanent and usually happens upon death. This is more of an illness brought on by the corrupted power of the Daear that drives and controls the populace... but I don't think it's permanent. If that makes you feel better!

At least, it better not be, for Newt's sake.

I hope I can write some more too. I only have a handful of chapters left to update with. And with NaNo coming up, I have a feeling Darkstar is going to be put on hold for a while again. Ah well.

We'll see what happens.

That poor soldier... telling his commanding officer that they just got their butts kicked, but still more scared to death than ashamed. I wouldn't have seen the Factions similarities if you hadn't pointed them out, I think-- but of course I read the announcement before the chapter.

Quote:
Did Cecil go and piss off a bunch of dead guys by tromping over their graves or something?

What it reminded me of, actually, was aggro-ing every single Restless Spirit on the Nolani Academy mission! :oops:

Back to the chapter.

Really good one... You write war scenes just fine! There's a definite sense of the chaos of battle, even from Kain's position away from the thick of it. And the soldier twisting to something evil was really creepy. (I wish I HADN'T known that was coming so I coulda been more scared!) Is this like being Marked, or...?

The ending was especially good. After a lot of time thinking about new characters and your original plots, it was fun to tie back into the original FFIV and that awkward little love triangle. Poor Kain... Cecil's quite a hero, still! But Silver had it right... Even if "Mr. Holy Boxers" isn't there, they're still the heroes of the Crystal Wars, and they can take care of themselves.

Bring it on! This was a really great read, Wren... I hope you're able to write more soon!

*cheers for everyone* :cheer:

Aww... thanks Iam! War scenes are really hard for me to write, so I'm glad you thought this was done well.

Also... I wanted to randomly note: this chapter was written well before Guild Wars Factions ever came out. I grit my teeth a bit to see that some of the elements in this chapter were similiar to basic plot elements in GW:F (using illness as a weapon to turn allies to enemies). But I promise, it wasn't influenced by that game... I had never played it back when I wrote this!! ^^;
