]]> By: Aaron http://www.ffdarkstar.com/intermission-6/comment-page-1/#comment-221 Aaron Thu, 23 Jul 2009 10:12:02 +0000 http://sygnus.lunarpages.com/dspress/intermission-6/#comment-221 I always was interested in the triangle of kain cecil and rosa. in the japanese version i believe the story goes much more into detail about the events that happened before the crystal wars. im pretty sure there was something between rosa and kain before rosa's relationship with cecil started. i always had the impression that kain looked out for cecil as they grew up both in life and in battle, as cecil was essentially an orphan. in light of the fact that kain was cecils friend, he probably carried angst over the fact that he felt cecil stole rosa from him as cecil was promoted to captain of the red wings, while he chose to become a dragoon. golbez just used that already existing angst to facilitate the mind control. indeed, several times in the game, you can see rosa feels guilt and partially responsible for whats happening to kain, while cecil just kind of looks on silently. rosa also goes a step further to defend kain when the others antagonize him, and the others are in disbelief considering how she was treated. all of this alludes to a back story between them. its these little rich character details that make the story so fascinating. I always felt that Golbez was very aware of what was going on in Kain's head about Rosa (and probably about everything else, too, considering Kain was being controlled by Golbez)... but that's just my thought. I saw Rosa as sort of a playing card in Golbez's hands or a carrot on a stick -- but one that was played very carefully. Afterall, if Kain's obsession (as I began to see it) with Rosa got too much, it would begin to hinder his performance. Which is exactly the idea of making Kain take a "time out", so to speak, in this chapter. Glad that you felt this was a pretty good piece -- as I noted, it was more of a re-write from the orginal old, old, old version of Darkstar. So it took a good bit of touching up here and there. ^_~ I dunno.. I often wondered how that actually went, given Kain's feelings for her. I like this interpertation of her time there, one of the better I've seen written.
