Kain has been the long time childhood friend of Cecil and Rosa. However, he has always held a secret love for Rosa, despite the fact that she was always attracted to Cecil. His love for her, twisted by the dark hand of Golbez, pushed him to acts of betrayal against Cecil during the Crystal Wars. After the battle was over, Kain left Baron and journeyed to Mt. Ordeals for meditation and search of inner redemption.
Kain has changed much since his younger days, transformed by the scars rent by the taint of the Dark Lord Golbez. The once bright, witty and carefree young Dragoon is now a torn and shame-filled spirit, tormenting himself for acts done beyond his control. Though the time spent on Mt. Ordeals has begun a new healing within, Kain still travels a long hard road towards his self-forgiveness.


Having given up his feelings for Rosa, his one true purpose in returning to Baron is to serve the new royal family with utmost loyalty. Though a rift has formed between himself and his once best friend Cecil, he endlessly works to regain worthiness in the eyes of those who had forgiven him long ago. He has been granted the positon of the Captain of the Baronian Dragoons, and is one of the last true Dragon Knights.
- Kain is the master of the Dragoon Jump, an extremely powerful airborne spear attack.


- Kain has the ability to connect and communicate with benevolent dragons. However, there are very few of these breeds of dragons left on the Blue Planet now.
